1. Estate spices and blends are specification work
The spices hub already lists cloves, cinnamon, and blends as estate- and market-sourced lots prepared to buyer mesh and volatile-oil targets. This spoke is that line in long form. It does not repeat curcumin HPLC tables (those stay on Alleppey turmeric) or 8mm cardamom screens (those stay on the green cardamom grading guide).

2. Cloves
Buyers should state bud vs stem, headless or mixed, and whether the lot is whole or ground. Moisture and foreign matter belong on the contract. Eugenol / volatile-oil assays are optional extras — name them if the application is flavour or dental/fragrance adjacent. We will not invent an oil percentage on this page.
Visual grade (sound buds, colour) should be locked with a type sample. Clove lots are aroma-sensitive; packing should be a moisture and odour barrier (multi-wall, drum, or vacuum pouch as specified).
3. Cinnamon and cassia language
International RFQs often say “cinnamon” when they mean cassia (thicker bark, different flavour, different price). The contract should name the botanical or the trade type the buyer actually wants, plus:
- Form: quills, quillings, chips, or ground mesh.
- Moisture and acid-insoluble ash if the QA team uses those limits.
- Any requirement to exclude spent or exhausted bark.
Do not assume a EU-retail “true cinnamon” claim unless the lot is documented for that claim.
4. Blends
A blend is a recipe, not a grade. The RFQ should list:
- Each component spice and its share (or a sealed type sample).
- Mesh or particle-size band.
- Salt, anti-caking, or allergen statements if the blend is a finished seasoning.
- Whether the blend is mixed at origin or the buyer will mix downstream.
Origin blending reduces secondary processing for some manufacturers; it also raises cross-contact and recipe-confidentiality questions. Those are contract items. Hygiene and traceability follow the same ISO 9001 / GMP habit as single spices.
5. Packing, documents, cluster
