2. Key Non-Basmati Varieties for Enterprise Sourcing
- IR64 Long-Grain White / Parboiled Rice:
- Attributes: High milling yield, firm texture, low broken percentage options (5%, 10%, 25%).
- Applications: Large-volume retail packing and institutional food distribution.
- Sona Masoori (Medium Grain):
- Attributes: Lightweight, low starch, easy digestibility.
- Applications: Premium diaspora retail markets and health-conscious food products.
- 100% Broken Rice:
- Applications: Brewing, starch manufacturing, rice flour processing, and animal feed.
3. Container Optimization & Fumigation Standards
Shipping bulk grain across oceanic routes requires strict contamination controls:
- Container Loading Efficiency: A standard 20ft FCL accommodates 24 to 26 Metric Tons in 25kg or 50kg PP/Jute bags.
- Phytosanitary Fumigation: Methyl Bromide or Phosphine treatment to eliminate weevils (Sitophilus oryzae) and guarantee pest-free cargo upon customs clearance.
- Kraft Paper Liners & Desiccant Bags: Absorbs container condensation during transit across equatorial shipping lanes.
Partner with an Established Grain Exporter
Intact Global Exports supplies long-grain Basmati, Sona Masoori, and Parboiled Non-Basmati rice in bulk containers and private-label retail packaging. Mixed rice-and-millet programmes are covered in the Basmati and ragi guide; enterprise bulk grain procurement describes 15,000+ MT capacity and Incoterm options.
- Request a Bulk Grain Quotation: Contact our grain trading desk for specification sheets, milling schedules, and competitive FOB/CIF rates.
When to buy Basmati vs a named non-basmati
Buy Basmati when the plate or the brand needs aroma and elongation and the landed cost can carry it. Buy IR64, Sona Masoori, parboiled, or a broken band when the job is institutional volume, brewing, or flour. Do not write “long grain rice” and expect a mill to guess.
This page owns the comparison and the container maths. Finger millet is a different SKU: ragi export guide. Mixed rice-plus-millet programmes sit on the ancient-grains pairing post.
Buyer specification checklist
- Variety and process (raw, steamed, parboiled, sella).
- Uncooked length / broken % / moisture.
- Bag size (25/50 kg PP or jute are the published defaults).
- Fumigation preference if the destination names it.
- 20 ft vs 40 ft — we already publish 24–26 MT as a typical 20 ft rice load when the spec allows it.
- Incoterm and port.
Destination notes
GCC and UK retail programmes usually defend Basmati specs tightly. West/East Africa and some Middle East institutional buyers more often name non-basmati. Fumigation and kraft liners matter on long equatorial legs. We do not invent a transit-day promise on this page.
How Intact handles the lot
Mill availability is confirmed before the window is locked. Inspection and bag marks follow the contract. Phytosanitary and origin papers are prepared with the file. Updates go out by email or WhatsApp. Enterprise grain volume is described on the supply-chain hub.
Common RFQ mistakes
- “Basmati or similar.”
- No broken percentage.
- Assuming 40 ft economics without asking for a 20 ft load plan.
